Datsun 1970 2000 Roadster

5 speed, 96k miles

This Datsun Roadster is an older restoration (single stage paint, when it was still available) body sheet metal is all original and was virtually undamaged prior to being prepped for paint. The good thing about this paint for those of us who appreciate originality is the fact that it looks like the original (alkyd enamel) that was used on these cars at the factory.

This car was professionally restored 14 years ago, then driven very little since. All brake hydraulics have since been upgraded to new and rebuilt as in the case of the brake master cylinder which was re-sleeved in brass (a potential lifetime upgrade) while the cylinder was replaced an important upgrade was installed in the brake master cylinder support bracket (designed by Stan Chernoff and associates). The recent upgrades also include removal of the engine to install a new Nissan clutch assembly while some other cosmetic upgrades were performed including the removal of the dated and poorly designed smog equipment that was mandated during the '90s.

Also noteworthy is the fact that the interior vinyl is mostly original, showing what care this car has had during its life here in Northern california. Only three owners total (one owner car when found prior to the restoration),

This car has absolutely no rust. The floors are still painted in the original silver paint. All new exhaust system sounds great as this car starts and runs very well. When the restoration was done the engine was rebuilt and the timing chains, sprockets, guides and tensioners were replaced with new Nissan components (freshly rebuilt starter and alternator, warranty included). All front end components have been inspected for wear (during chassis lube) and found to have none. To further aid in the inspection process the entire chassis was steam cleaned.

Michelin radials are not new but in very good condition. A restoration of this quality would cost today about $30,000 unless you start with a not-so-nice example. Then the cost would go up and the resulting product would be not nearly as nice — especially upon close inspection. There are two very small flaws in the paint that may be improved with a carefully applied touch-up brush. One on the hood (by the hood letters), and one very small one by the drivers mirror.
